Angolan-born Paulo, aka Chilola, the rain that destroys anything in its path, trained as a boxer from a young age. With no less than 150 fights under his belt and the first Angolan to win gold at an international tournament, Paulo lives and breathes boxing. Having learnt his art from Cuban boxers, masters of technical boxing, Paulo has nurtured many a champion such as Nicola Adams, Chris "The Flash" Evangelou & Andreas "Ace" Evangelou; Jose "The Look' Lopes; Larry "The Natural" Ekundayo; Eric "The Eagle" Ochieng and Hannah Beharry to name but a few. The list is endless. 

The heart and soul of Selby Amateur Boxing Club, Paulo is more than just a boxing coach and is seen by many of his students as a father figure, positively impacting their lives inside and outside the ring.

Paulo featured in the '1000 Londoners' project, a unique digital portrait of the city, offering an insight into the lives of 1,000 people who consider themselves to be Londoners, taking in all ages, religions, race, income, interests and opinions. 

Maria Muhongo is the dedicated girls and women’s boxing coach at Selby Amateur Boxing Club. With a passion for encouraging women and fostering discipline, Maria creates a welcoming and supportive environment for female boxers. As the wife of Head Coach Paulo Muhongo, she shares his commitment to nurturing talent and building strong, confident athletes, helping her athletes thrive both inside and outside the ring.

When she is not coaching, Maria devotes her time to volunteering at a local charity, where she plays an integral role in supporting the senior members of her community. She assists with a range of activities, providing companionship and care to elderly individuals. Additionally, Maria oversees a weekly book club, where she encourages a love of reading and fosters meaningful social connections among participants. Her dedication to helping others extends beyond the boxing ring, as she remains committed to enhancing the lives of those in her local community.

With nearly a decade of boxing coaching experience, Kevin is a dedicated and innovative boxing coach. Having started boxing through a weight-loss journey and after a handful of amatuer bouts, Kevin is now a well sought after Level 2 England Boxing Coach and a British Boxing Board of Control licensed professional boxing trainer. Kevin has trained multiple regional and box cup champions through to to professional pathway.

Kevin's style of coaching centres around solid fundamentals and a good ring IQ. His tailored training programmes are designed to suit all levels and abilities, from recreational boxers to elite and professional athletes.

Away from boxing, Kevin has a Masters Degree in Sports Law and represents numerous athletes and sports governing bodies in various sporting matters.

His favourite boxers are Terence Crawford and Andre Ward.
